Mrs. Susan Higginbotham Echols, 63 of Oak Grove Rd., Washington entered into rest on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Piedmont Augusta.
Mrs. Echols, daughter of the late John William and Lillie Holloway Higginbotham was born on January 28, 1959 in Wilkes County, Ga. She grew up on her family’s dairy farm, and attended Wilkes Academy. After graduating in 1977, she attended Georgia Southern and went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Brenau University.
Her career of 34 years with the State of Georgia as a Probation Officer in the Toombs Judicial Circuit began in Crawfordville where she served a brief internship followed by working in the Thomson office and later as office manager in the Washington office when she retired.
Since retirement, she has enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and helping on the farm. Rehoboth Baptist Church was very special to her as she had been a member and pianist since her childhood serving as pianist for the past 50 years.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, William M. “Billy” Echols, Jr.; son and daughter-in-law, John and Allison Echols and their children, Lexi, Bella and Case; daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Jason Standard and their children, Brock and Anna Lillie; sister, Joan H. Bowen and husband George; sister-in-law, Pam E. Powell and 4 nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Ally Grace Standard.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at 3pm at Rehoboth Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2pm until the hour of the service in the church sanctuary on Sunday.
