Billy Eugene Shurling, 89, Thomson, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on May 28, 2023.
Billy was born in Harrison, Washington County, Georgia on January 26, 1934, grew up in Washington, County, joined the Army after graduation and served his Country until 1957, when he came home and worked for J. M. Huber for 37 years until he retired. He eventually settled in Thomson, Georgia and has lived here for 57 years. Billy was Baptist by faith, a member of Thomson First Baptist Church, was a member of the Thomson Lions Club “Camelia City Lions” and he was the District Governor for the Lions Club for a period of time. Billy enjoyed golfing, fishing, farming and loved spending time with his friends and family and especially his grandchildren.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Roger Shurling and Rosa Lee Tyson Shurling. His survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Joyce Ryles Shurling; his sons, Ted Shurling (Cindy) of Harlem and Roy Gene Shurling (Jill) of Pensacola, Florida; his sister, Mary Guthrie of Knoxville, Tennessee; his grandchildren, Lauren Ashby Huffman (Steven), Jeff Shurling, Jack Shurling and Cabryn Shurling and his great grandchildren, Ryles Huffman and Lucy Huffman.
His Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.. His Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Westview Cemetery, Thomson, Georgia, being officiated by Dr. David Lambert.
